Please include your workflow. Using it to edit photos but it crashes a lot and I end up losing a lot of work as it does not autosave. In Affinity Designer there is no option to merge layers. Grouped layers will be collapsed into sublayers. The selected layer merges with the first available pixel layer beneath it. Groups and layers have very similar functionality in Affinity apps.
